ParaScale, Inc., a startup offering cloud storage software solutions, and Storage Switzerland, an analyst firm focused on the virtualization and storage marketplaces, will co-host a free webinar entitled, ‘Cloud Storage 101’ on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 12:00 pm PT / 2:00 pm CT / 3:00 pm ET.
The webinar will feature industry thought-leader George Crump, lead analyst at Storage Switzerland. He will be joined by Sajai Krishnan, CEO of ParaScale, and Cameron Bahar, CTO of ParaScale. This session is designed for end-users considering building their own private storage cloud and service providers interested in providing cloud storage services and deploying a public storage cloud. The presentation will address the following key topics:
- What is cloud storage? Is it related to next-generation NAS and next-generation clustered storage?
- What kind of data and workload is cloud storage suited for?
- Where is cloud storage a poor fit?
- What factors should you consider before implementing cloud storage?
- How do private clouds compare with large commercial public cloud service offerings?
No particular vendor’s technology will be addressed in detail. The intent is to provide an overview of the many choices, and provide a framework to think about the dramatic benefits from cloud storage.
“Many have heard the buzz around Amazon’s S3,” said George Crump of Storage Switzerland. “When IT administrators hear ‘cloud’, they usually visualize mega-infrastructure serving data over the internet to millions of customers. But this is only one type of public cloud, albeit the one first to market. The beauty of this technology is that you can realize real benefits at very modest scales and so it is possible also to have private clouds of a few nodes within your own firewall, tuned for your own specific needs. There is clearly a need for education so that potential customers can understand their choices and be informed consumers.”
