W3C, OpenAjax Alliance Hold Joint Workshop on Mobile AJAX Applications

Experts join to explore user and industry challenges for mobile technology frontier

Experts in mobile applications development, AJAX, and Web standards come together this week to build a more complete picture of the future of interactive mobile Web applications. W3C and the OpenAjax Alliance have convened a Workshop on 28 September at the Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus in Mountain View, CA, USA.

Workshop participants will explore user and industry use cases and challenges around AJAX applications on mobile devices and what types of applications are likely to succeed in mobile environments. Participants will look for ways to identify the unique aspects of the mobile Web experience, and how it affects AJAX application development. They also plan to discuss the applicability of standardization activities in this developing area.

Participants who have submitted position papers include: ACCESS, AOL, Aplix, Coactus, Dojo Foundation, ETRI, Gemalto, Gemini Mobile, Google, Harvard Medical School, IBM, ICESoft, Ikivo, Microsoft, MobileAware, Mobile Complete, Mobix, Motorola, NEC, Nexaweb, NHN, Nokia, Novarra, NTT DoCoMo, OpenAjax Alliance, Paving Ways, Research in Motion, SAP, SK Telecom, Sprint, Sun Microsystems, University of Helsinki, Volantis, W3C Web Applications Formats Working Group, Wake3 and Yahoo!.

The program chairs for the Workshop on Mobile AJAX are Daniel Appelquist of Vodafone and Jon Ferraiolo of IBM and OpenAjax Alliance. The program committee includes representatives from ACCESS, ETRI, Google, Livescribe, MobileAware, Nokia, OpenGardens, Opera, Sun Microsystems, Volantis, and Wake3, Inc.
