In this session, we will introduce you to the Xaja framework. Xaja is the first server-side PHP framework that is built around core reverse AJAX capabilities. It enables you to develop a complex web 2.0 application without typing a single line of Javascript. First, you will be given an insight of the architecture of Xaja. Numerous choices must be made when implementing Reverse AJAX frameworks. These choices affect global performances, memory consumption and usability. We will discuss how we dealt with those choices. In the second part, we will dig into the code and make a simple address book application with Reverse AJAX features. The address book will update automatically on everybody’s screen when someone modifies it, showing how to push data from the server to the browser. The paper will be based on the Xaja screencast that can be consulted on The Coding Machine's website (you should really see this).

Speaker Bio: David is the lead developer of Xaja, the first open-source PHP reverse Ajax framework. He co-founded and is CTO of The Coding Machine, a start-up that provides IT services through community driven development. David takes interest in developing frameworks that help the community improving its efficiency. Two of those frameworks have been released in open-source: TDBM - a PHP ORM framework -, and Xaja.
