TRACY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 08/14/06 -- ALTAMONT MOTOR SPORTS PARK -- In the thunder and flash of regional NASCAR racing, fans are continually reminded that something else can be achieved at top speed: tax refunds!
As the corporate sponsor of Philpott Racing Team, TaxBrain.com's bright orange logo is visible to thousands of fans as various members of the Philpott Team take their turns on the "fastest half-mile oval in the West."
According to Craig Petz, TaxBrain.com Vice President of Marketing, "NASCAR is the fastest growing spectator sport in the country, and is an ideal venue for our on-line do-it-yourself tax preparation service. TaxBrain.com is considered the fastest way to obtain a tax refund. So we're right at home helping the Philpott Racing team compete for top honors."
40 YEARS OF WHEEL-TO-WHEEL RACING CELEBRATED AT ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK
On August 13th, 16-year-old Justin Philpott, third generation racer out of the Tracy, CA-based Philpott team was recognized for the family's contributions to regional NASCAR racing at the site of the Dodge Weekly Series event. Philpott's participation began 40 years ago with his grandfather, John Philpott. This season, Justin and his father, David have shared track time on both the soon-to-be-closed Stockton 99 Raceway and recently refurbished Altamont Motorsports Park.
David and Justin Philpott, the local circuit's father-and-son racing team, had double duty ahead of them this past weekend. They raced at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, and then to Altamont.
Last time the Philpotts raced at Altamont, David's No. 50 car finished fifth and Justin's No. 05 placed 10th. A two-time Stockton 99 champion, David has one Western Late Model class win at Altamont in 2006. When only 15 years old, Justin was the 2005 Rookie-of-the-year in the WLM class of regional NASCAR racing.
On August 13, 2006, more than 50 employees of Petz Enterprises, Inc. of Tracy, producers of the TaxBrain.com brand, as well as Petz family members, relatives and friends came to Altamont to celebrate 40 years of Philpott racing.
Christopher H. Roberts, writing in the current Tracy Press newspaper explained the importance of the Altamont track to NASCAR fans: "It's one of the most famous racetracks in America, and the site of one of the biggest events in local -- as well as rock 'n' roll -- history.
"And Sunday, it's celebrating a birthday.
"Forty years of history have passed since Altamont Motor Sports Park first opened its doors in 1966. In those four decades, the track has seen it all: It's undergone numerous ownership changes, endured legal and financial woes, played host to some of auto racing's biggest names -- and, of course, it was the site of an infamous 1969 rock concert featuring an English band called the Rolling Stones.
"'You can go anywhere in the country and say, 'Altamont,' and people will say, 'Oh, the Rolling Stones,'' current track president and general manager Kenny Shepherd said. 'It's a part of history.'
"But as much as the word 'Altamont' means to popular culture, it's also a vital cog in the lore of California racing; a key chapter in a story that began long before a single car touched 'The Fastest Half-Mile in the West.'"
Leroy E. Petz, President of Petz Enterprises, Inc. summed up the ongoing support of the Philpott Racing Team saying, "The opportunity to sponsor a NASCAR team is totally in keeping with our emphasis on good clean competition, technology and family fun."
